Residents of Icacos Village in Cedros are furious over the lack of water supply in the area for more than six weeks. One villager took social media to highlight the plight the village is currently facing.
Resident Britney Mc Craig, on Tuesday 20th April, posted a video on her Facebook Page pleading with representatives for the area to alleviate their concern. She called out by names, the Member of Parliament and Local Government Representative for the area, Kennedy Richards Jr. and Shankar Teelucksingh, respectively, to assist them.
Mc Craig stated, the beaches are closed and we are battling a pandemic, however, there is no pipe or truck borne water for the area.
Southtrini News contacted Ms. McCraig, who informed us, the issue of no water has been happening for approximately seven weeks and calls to elected representatives for the area were without any success.
One commenter on her post, Sally Alfred, indicated that she has a business and no water. Other comments suggested privatization of the Water & Sewage Company (WASA) as the solution for local water woes.
Following her rant, the following statement was issued by the Member of Parliament on his official Facebook page:
“Dear Constituents of Icacos
It has come to my attention that there has been a water shortage issue in Icacos.
Please note that I have been in contact with WASA and there has been a several leaks one of which was a main valve in disrepair.
The repairing process had to take four days which ended yesterday and as per protocol the pressure had to be released for the commencement of the repairing.
The repairs has been completed and I am currently liaising with the authority on when the appropriate pressure would be resumed”
