Today, June 23rd, the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA), opened a 24hr Walk-In Health-Care facility, at the former Petrotrin/Heritage administrative office building, in Point Fortin.
The new Walk-In Facility will replace the 24hr service, temporarily implemented at the Point Fortin Health Center, after the main (new) Point Fortin hospital, was converted to a Covid 19 treatment facility. The Health Center operations, including pharmacy services, will return to 8am – 4pm.
As reported earlier this week, initially, sources informed SouthTrini News, the facility would be accommodating accident & emergency services as well as delivery of babies. However, upon visiting the facility on Wednesday afternoon, staff members described functionality as, “touch and go”, without specific maternity services, such as performing delivery of babies, implying, patients will be assessed and if need be, transfer to San Fernando General Hospital for care & treatment.
On Tuesday 22nd June, the SWRHA, issued a public notification informing residents of Point Fortin and environs of the Point Fortin Walk-In Service. Notably absent from the SWRHA notification, were the words, “Accident & Emergency”. However, a subsequent Social Media post from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Point Fortin, Kennedy Richards Jr. Stated, “it would facilitate accident and emergencies among our district”.
The MP posted photos of the facility’s interior and a contact number 687-6043 at which the facility can be reached.
SouthTrini news will seek to be updated regarding the specific services to be offered at the facility.
