The Community of Point Fortin, on Sunday 20th June, mourned the passing of former Nurse, Joan De Silva of Mahaica.
Tanty Joan as she was fondly called, worked with the Ministry of Health for over forty (40) years and upon retirement from the Government Service, worked on contract with Petrotrin’s (Petroleum Company of Trinidad & Tobago) Medical Service. Hospital authorities reported her death as being Covid related.
She was the mother of former national Basketball Player and National Referee’s Association President, Ronald ‘knockers” De Silva, Martin “laloo” De Silva and Denise De Silva-Sealy. De Silva Sealy is the mother of local entertainer, Gregory Ayuen.
Nurse De Silva, was very much engaged in religious activities, a devout christian who was always willing to assist someone.
Due to regulations associated with the Covid 19 pandemic. Her funeral service will be held privately.

My deepest condolences to the Da Silva family . On behalf of the Moore family of Volunteer Road , I remembered Nurse Da Silva via the Company of Petrotrin/ Trintoc. She gave us our shots at the medical facility.What I remembered was her professional manner:her lily white uniform from her cap to the soft sound of her white working shoes. But the injections even though they gave a sting , she remarked it was for your own well-being. She always moved briskly. So
Once more to Nurse Da Silva sleep in eternal peace and rise in glory. To her family, children and grandchildren and by at large the community of Point Fortin , with time the pain of losing her would not hurt so much. Remember her legacy and the values she had imparted to you all.
